Zoya Akhtar is daughter of writers Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. Her brother is director turned hero Farhan Akhtar. She has started her career with Mira Nair's Kama Sutra: The Tale Of Love. For that movie she has acted as casting director.
She has worked as casting director for Farhan Akhtar's movies like Dil Chahta hai and Lakshya. She has worked with her mother for Armaan, for that movie also she was casting director.
In 2009 with Luck By Chance she made her Bollywood debut as director. She has announced her next project Kismat Talkies with Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
